Payrolls, 1921-1933.

This series consists of armory drill, field training and special duty payroll records for officers and enlisted men of the Florida National Guard from 1921 to 1933. Information contained in most of the records includes the name of the individual, date of appointment, location, date and type of duty performed. Special duty payroll records for Guardsmen involved in the Mediterranean Fruit Fly quarantine of 1929-1930 are filed by the district served. Other records in the series include correspondence, a list of deserters from the Florida National Guard, and persons transferred. Among the units included are 31st Division, 62nd Brigade; 1st, 124th, and 154th Infantry Regiments; and the State Staff Corps.

The Florida National Guard was established in 1909 (Ch. 5930, Laws) replacing the Florida State Troops. From 1921 until 1973, the Guard was placed under the Military Dept (Ch. 8502, Laws). In 1973, the Military Dept. became the Dept. of Military Affairs (Ch. 73-93, Laws). The Adjutant General has served as the military head of the Guard since its inception.
